My Story

I'm joining compassionate people from across the North East of England for an unforgettable night beneath the stars. I will be sleeping out in The Alnwick Garden, raising funds for Oasis Community Housing.

MY WORK AND WHAT INSPIRED ME TO DO THIS

My work as a designer for the last 15 years has been all about people's deep-rooted connection to home. But the word home is complicated, and the issues around homelessness are complex and are not simply about building more properties. I have chosen Oasis Community Housing as my charity of choice because I am passionate about supporting their strategy to tackle the root cause of homelessness. 

WHY I CHOSE OASIS COMMUNITY HOUSING

Oasis Community Housing also work across Gateshead, where I have lived for the last 24 years, and London, where I grew up. So there is a personal connection for me to their work. While living and working in London, I saw many people on the streets, and I was shocked by how desensitised communities can become towards homelessness. When I see people living on the streets, I often feel powerless to help, so this is my way of contributing to such a worthy cause.

I will be sleeping out at Alnwick Garden to experience a glimpse of the practical challenges that people face day in and day out.

To everyone who has sponsored me so far, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your commitment to making the world a better place for everyone. I will hold you in my heart as I go through this experience and all of the people in the UK who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of it.
